What you'll learn

"When a scene we are not ‘part of’ starts unfolding on stage, we often tend to lower our guard. Our body goes from alert to relaxed, often sitting or leaning against the wall. And before we know it, we’ve gone into ‘spectator’ mode, no longer as quick to pick up on vital cues or ready to pitch in at a second’s notice.

If this pattern sounds familiar, then this workshop is for you! Through a series of exercises followed by scenework, we will practice being always ‘on’. We will explore the multiple ways we can contribute, either from the sidelines or by entering the scene.

We will also see when it’s worth staying out, and what a difference it makes when it’s an active, rather than passive choice."

About the teacher

"Kelly is the founder and Artistic Director of ImproBubble. She first discovered improvisation in 2010 and instantly fell in love with the art form. Soon after, she made her mark on Brussels’ fledgling anglophone improv scene by starting ATC Improv in 2012 and The Ghost Sheep in 2013, with whom she taught and performed for 5 years. In 2017, Kelly founded ImproBubble to deepen, broaden and professionalise the range of improv opportunities in Brussels, aiming to give future students all the tools they need to become a truly well rounded improviser.

Aside from running ImproBubble, Kelly teaches, directs and performs throughout Europe. Kelly is also a member of project.eve, a new collective of European female improvisers exploring gender on and off stage. Kelly also acts as curator and producer of all anglophone shows at the Improviste theatre, the only theatre in Belgium entirely dedicated to improvisation."
