What you'll learn
We've all been there, stuck in a scene in which nothing has been defined. Of course we want to 'go' somewhere, but because the platform, relationships and characters are not clear, the way forward seems just as foggy. The good news is that all we need to do is focus on one core skill to help us get ‘‘unstuck’’; SPECIFICITY!
When we describe a particular brand of cigarettes, put on a specific outfit, act out the exact type of shot used to score a goal, what we do or say on stage comes alive in a more vivid and enjoyable way, not only for the audience, but also for our fellow players! We immediately transport them to a place they too can see with their minds eye, which in turn fires up their inspiration. And brick by brick, we build that intricate and ornate cathedral, together.
This workshop will focus on how we can get better at paying attention to detail; the ones our fellow players put in, as well as how to make it second nature for ourselves, so that we can get on with the serious business of being in the moment and simply reacting to and adding to what is already there.
About the teacher
Kelly first discovered improvisation in 2010 and instantly fell in love with the art form. Soon after, she made her mark on Brussels’ fledgling anglophone improv scene by starting ATC Improv in 2012 and The Ghost Sheep in 2013, with whom she taught and performed for 5 years. In 2017, Kelly founded ImproBubble to deepen, broaden and professionalise the range of improv opportunities in Brussels, aiming to give future students all the tools they need to become a truly well rounded improviser. She has also been combining her past experience as an EU affairs professional with improvisation to facilitate corporate trainings, teambuildings and company events.
Aside from running ImproBubble, Kelly teaches, directs and performs throughout Europe. Between 2020 and 2024, she was the curator and producer of all anglophone shows at the Improviste theatre. She is also the co-founder, host and director of The Schuman Show, a European political comedy show mixing improv, stand up and sketch.
