What you'll learn

Improv is a beautiful moving meditation. It demands that you pay close attention to your own mind and body, tune into the presence and energies of your co-improviser(s) and watch it all unfold in the present moment, all at once. And we have been gifted with the most powerful tool to do this - the breath. In this workshop, we will immerse ourselves in a series of breathing exercises, meditations and movement practices to calm the mind and direct the awareness, allowing you to tap into your creativity like never before and improvise freely and easily. As simple as breathing.

About the teacher

Bala is an improviser based in Bangalore, India. She has been performing and teaching impro since 2016, creating her own show formats, teams and impro learning journeys in India. She started learning and performing impro in the United States when she was an engineering grad student. On returning to India, she joined India's largest Impro Theatre Company, Improv Comedy Bangalore, where she has performed in and directed 70+ shows since. She also co-founded India's first and only all-women Impro group - The Adamant Eves. During the pandemic, she had been teaching and performing virtually all over the globe. She was co-artistic director of Improv Comedy Bangalore, the company that that planned and executed the first continuous 24-hour virtual impro festival. She performed, hosted and curated 30+ performances, with improvisers across across 5 continents. She currently uses impro in her work as an organisational development consultant, one of the few facilitators using the methodology in India with corporations. Her personal philosophy is that as an improviser (or even as a human being), all you need is the ability to direct your awareness. To her, impro is a way of life and she loves teaching using a mix of themes like music, movement, philosophy, and a mix of eastern spiritual traditions - all tools that help her show up as her best self, on and off-stage.
