In this course, we will put you in the director’s chair. We want to give you a solid toolbox for directing your own scenes and shows. We will be looking at creating character-driven narrative whilst at the same time making conscious directorial choices that serve the story. At the end of the course, there will be a showcase put on entirely by the students.

What you’ll learn

  • Editing and timing

  • Making clear story choices

  • Keeping the oversight while staying in the moment

  • Coaching and complementing your scene partners from within

  • Organising a show

Who this is for

This is one of our Bubbles. These courses are intended for improvisers who already have an understanding of the basics, perhaps (but not necessarily) though our own Starting Steps courses. If you’re wondering which course is right for you, then feel free to email us.

Your safety

We’re careful to keep everyone safe at this time, and we’re following public health guidelines in everything that we do. Find out more here.

About the teacher

Charlotte de Metsenaere

Charlotte is a well known all-rounder in the Belgian improvisation scene. She will soon blow out 16 candles on the improvisation birthday cake. Charlotte works as an actor, teacher and director, in and out of Belgium. With her company ‘Zeggedis’ (Flemish for ‘Tell me!’), she teaches applied improvisation and communication techniques. In Belgium you might cross her working and performing with ImproBubble, Swaajp or Prism. Internationally you will find her performing with Prism, Ohana and the Werewolves international cast, or teaching at one of the many international festivals.

Other than that, she is inspired by the Meisner acting method, occupied with reading about gender awareness, she loves to be out of breath from kickboxing, she could easily die eating chocolate, and she sings the loudest and dances the funniest when you play ‘Pata Pata’ by Miriam Makeba.
