We all love a good hospital drama like Scrubs, House MD, Grey’s Anatomy, you name it. Vincent loves them too, which is why he created St. Vincent’s Hospital, an improv format that flips the focus from the doctors and staff to the patients, the people, sitting in the waiting room. They’re worrying, hoping, living through moments that sometimes change everything.
The reasons for being at St. Vincent’s range from life’s little hiccups to earth-shaking news, from joyous moments to the ones that leave a permanent mark. We’ll blend laughter and heartbreak, finding the humanity in every scene.
It’s all about diving into real, relatable characters and exploring how we’re connected, even in the simplest acts. Because here, every story matters, and at St. Vincent’s, everyone gets the same care.
We’re looking for improvisers ready to jump in, take risks, and make magic. If you’re into creating characters that make people laugh and feel all the feels, this is your chance. Auditions are open. Let’s make the waiting room unforgettable.
In order to be considered for this module, please send an application to info@improbubble.com outlining your impro experience (we recommend 2 years of prior experience, including stage time).
What you’ll experience
A professional approach to working on and rehearsing for a format
Personal feedback
The nuts and bolts of putting a show together from every aspect (including production)
How to work well with a group of improvisers when you are not a troupe
Work on the specific improv skills, needed for the format, in particular: exploring diverse human experiences, physicality & non-verbal communication, handling real-life stakes in improv, creating emotional arcs.
Who this is for
This is one of our Academy classes. These courses are intended for ambitious and advanced improvisers who already have at least 2-3 years of impro experience (including performance experience) who want to level up and work at a professional or semi-professional level.
There will be an audition and application process to select the participants for this course. Successful applicants will also be considered for future ImproBubble productions with our professional troupes.
Feedback will be an essential component of this course, as will a personal commitment from each individual to attend a production training as well as to take personal responsibility in the promotion of this show. The participants’ presence at each class is a requirement; it will be up to the discretion of the director whether they get to perform if there are absences.
About the teacher
Vincent Van Niewenhuyze
Hailing from the charming city of Ghent, Vincent is a seasoned improv player, teacher, and coach with over 15 years of experience bringing scenes to life.
By day, he is a project and process facilitator, tackling the corporate world with the same creative flair he brings to the stage. But when the clock strikes geek o’clock, this neurospicy dynamo dives into his other true passions: gaming (mostly MMORPGs), rolling the dice in Dungeons & Dragons, and embracing full-on otaku status with an ever-growing anime watchlist.
On stage, he is all about creating magic through intimacy, warmth, and boundless energy, making every scene feel fresh and fun. Offstage, he’s just as passionate about helping others unlock their creativity, keeping the fun in fundamentals, and exploring themes of gender and queerness in performance.
Whether he’s teaching, rocking an improv stage, leading a dungeon crawl, or leveling up his character online, Vincent’s motto is simple: “You be you!”
